Recently there has been a rise in the movement to breed a miniature version of the Australian Shepherd.
Hearthside Australian Shepherds are bred to the ASCA standard and registered with the AKC and ASCA .
The Australian Shepherd was never intended to be selected for size: it was developed to be a "functional working dog capable of handling tough stock and going for miles in the back country or snow drifts; an intelligent working dog of strong herding and guardian instincts."
Since these dogs are not ASCA or AKC registered, they cannot be verified as purebred, and therefore are not considered Australian Shepherds. These animals, minis or toy Aussies, are not considered purebreds by the AKC or ASCA.
Hearthside does not support the "miniaturizing" of the Australian Shepherd
